'06 A6 Avant MMI problems
#12
F me!
I think my amp just died! MMI does not boot, all I see is the Audi MMI logo, than it goes blank.
I had the leaky washer fluid hose TSB performed a while back, the amp compartment seems to be dry.

MMI Problem
I don't suppose that resetting the MMI would fix your problem ? .Try:-
Depressing Tele + MMI Control **** + Upper right Buttons all at the same time. This should hopefully fix your screen freeze. Thanks

The MMI simply does not work because one of the components (in my case the amplifier) has failed. You can think of the MMI as a big optical loop with components along the way, if one of them fails the loop is broken and nothing works.
Resting won't fix anything unfortunately, I tried more than several times

Please let me share my identical experience's with you. I have an '06 A6 Avant. You've got three options:
1) Boneyard search, which is what I did. $400 later I was the proud owner of a second-hand Amp.
2) Repair your Amp. I found this outfit in Florida and spoke with them by phone. They seem competent - http://www.sound-repair.com/
3) New Amp - I think my local Audi dealer at the time was quoting approx $1,200 for the unit. Installation & re-programing are extra.
If you go the boneyard or repair route, you will likely be rewarded instantly with sound from some channels, not all, and only partial MMI functionality. The MMI system will HAVE to be reprogrammed at your dealer. This is the only way to restore 100% functionality to your MMI system.

I'm the 2nd owner of the Avant. It appears that the hose had been replaced under owner #1. Also, the Amp was sheathed in plastic as if to protect it from drips - Hmmm.
No leaks in there anymore - but - I can't use my rear washer because the wiper motor does leak washer fluid at a fast rate. Not an inexpensive fix either as the leak is within the electric motor housing. I've already gone into the lift gate to clean and dry tail light connections and the like - no more. I'll do without that luxury.

I just fixed mine over the weekend. Quite a bit of work since there are many trim pieces that need to come off to gain full access.
Saved myself $336, that's what the dealership wanted for the work.
Now I just need to get a new amp.

Sound issues after amp replaced
Not to hijack the forum but, I've recently had my Amp replaced and now the sound system doesn't have bass or right side speakers... The work was done at an "Audi certified shop". They now they're saying that the radio needs to be replaced. I'm not sure I completely trust these guys. Has anyone had problems with speakers not working after the amp is replaced? Suggestions?
