2005 a6 3.2 fueling issues?

Hi everyone. Im having the p2296 high pressure fuel pump issue. I pulled the pump and the follower looks to be worn a little but not badly.I have all the classic symptoms like bad economy, not reving an missing sometimes, hard starting. Has anyone seen this failure being the actual pump? Ive only read about the follower.

thats good to hear im going to do the carbon cleaning right down to the valves in the next couple days i hope it fixes it.
