ok guys the core is in and done. First off do not order a core from Rock Auto they have the core for up to 04, even though they list it as 05. I told them its wrong they dont really care. Second you DO NOT have to pull the dash.

I had an Audi tech from the dealer do the job for me at my shop, I didnt really get to take any pics, but I can tell you how he did it

-He removed the side of console both sides
-removed glovebox and cover under steering wheel.
-removed connections and coolant lines from engine compartment, and blew air down the lines to remove coolant from the core.
-threw a towel on each side of the floor removed the brackets along side the core, then removed the clips and clamps and the core slides right out

This obviously isnt a step by step, but it was very simple from what I saw, He had no hangups or issues and had the new core installed in less than an hr from the start. I ended up leaving, but he told me its a 2-3 hr job, and he has done over a dozen of them.

Hope this helps a little as I found zero information online about the replacement of the heater core for 2005+

Thanks a lot for coming back and posting this very useful information!
That's what I call a great design.

Thanks for the info. I just found this problem with my '13 S5, and I am hoping the B8.5 chassis is like your A6 and can be done without removing the dash.
