Default 2008 A6 4.2 Camshaft position sensor connector

I was having misfire issues on my 2008 4.2. I narrowed it down to the coil connectors. They were all broken and periodically cause misfiring. replacing all those connectors fixed that problem, but then I discovered the next one. The cam position sensor connectors are both broken. This caused me a problem until I snugged them up. I am confused because the connectors I have are straight up and have two leads. In my searching, all of the sensors I see have three leads and are angled. I circled the sensor/connectors I am talking about. If these aren't cam position sensors, then what are they? When it threw the code, I read it with my VAGSOM and it showed: exhaust cam adjustment circuit. I am looking for the connectors and can't find ones that look like what I have.

Hey not sure if you ever got this sorted but figure you did. The solenoid you circled is the camshaft actuator solenoid which can cause the code you have. The actual camshaft position sensor is on the lower side of the head and has the two wires coming from the bottom middle of your coil pack wiring strip. Both can go bad, in my case it was a bad adjuster. They are notorious for going bad on the 3.2 and have never heard of much of a problem with the 4.2 but I'd imagine they fail as well. Easiest tell is mesh stuck in one of the ports. If you remove it to check, make sure to have a new o-ring for it as it will leak. High oil pressure at that seal!

I did finally figure it all out. I was getting a code for the exhaust camshaft position sensor. I ended up finding a connector for the valve adjustment solenoid from rockauto, but it would not lock on. I ended up pushing it on and duct taping it for now. Not a 100% solution, but works. I went through all of the valve timing solenoids and cam position sensors.
