2008 Audi A6/C6 4.2: P0014 and P000B
1. The Oil Level Min light comes on every 30 to 50 miles. (It used to be 75 to 150 miles until recently. See next item.) However, the oil level always shows full. I found that opening and closing the oil filler cap reset the indicator for the next 30 to 150 miles.
2. A few months ago, the Check Engine Light (CEL) came on. A scan provide error code P0014. (This is about when the mileage dropped between the Oil Level Min light coming on.) The engine runs smoothly at idle, low speed, high speed. I see no symptoms at all other than the CEL.
[A local shop said a timing chain was stretched and that it would cost $9000 to repair. I didn't think these chains stretched... Also, how would they know if they didn't actually pull the engine?]
Resetting the DTC codes, the CEL came back on after driving about 3 blocks, and a scan again gave P0014.
I planned to swap solenoids and/or sensors from left to right to see of the problem switched sides, but standing outside in sub-freezing temperatures is not my thing (unless on skis).
3. Now that the weather is getting nice again, I rescanned, got the same P0014 code, reset all error codes, then drove about 12 miles this time before the CEL came back on. Rescanning, P0014 is no longer present, but is replaced with error code P000B.
Q1: Could the Oil Level Min light be related to these error codes?
Q2: Are these 2 error codes really as similar as they seem to me?
Q3: Is swapping solenoids and/or sensors the first step I should do? Solenoids first, then sensors (or vice versa)?
Q4: I saw an article about resetting the Oil Level Min light by resetting the Service Interval Display. Should I try that, and if so, how do I do it?
Thanks for any help!

- Before you do anything get a FULL VCDS scan and determine what the issues are.
- Scan the engine for Block 093 and post the offset numbers
- go ahead an swap, what's the worst that can happen
- Reseting your service light is easy....use SEARCH
All of the items you've asked for can be easily found by just typing them into the search in the forum.

I also have a 2008 4.2. I can't help with the OBD codes but can offer my experience with the low oil level warning. I kept getting that same light and kept checking the oil level and it was always good. After I would pop the hood and pull the dipstick, the warning light would go off and then come back 1-2 weeks later. Repeat several times and started driving me nuts. Did a bunch of research and found that popping the hood and closing it would reset the sensor and light. Sure enough, that's what I started doing and it turns the warning light off every time. My guess would be it has enough vibration to reset the sensor. If you search the interwebs, you'll find that this is a common problem and replacing the oil level sensor will fix it. I will be replacing it at the next oil change and hopefully not have to deal with it anymore.
If you do not have a VCDS cable, get one. The chains don't stretch as much as the guides break and cause problems.

FYI, here is the detail for DTC P0014:
SAE VAG Description
P0014 16398 "B" Camshaft Position - Timing Over-Advanced or System Performance Bank 1
Bank 1 is the passenger side of the engine. DTC P000B is also related to the camshaft adjustment valve.

Swapping solenoids revealed one with a piece of screen wedged into it preventing any movement. I am now 99.9% sure this is the culprit to the CEL and error codes.
Q5: I see (what I think is) this part online with prices from $25 to $200.
Should I avoid the first one for $29 in favor of the $100 one?

The weather finally warmed up enough to go outside and replace the solenoid and reset the error codes. The CEL is extinguished and has remained so for 120+ miles. (So far so good!) The old solenoid had a piece of screen jammed into it, exactly like I saw in another thread (which I can no longer find).
