Is this a common issue? We had faults for the secondary air system, both banks. Is there a suggest solution for this? Thanks for any input.

Not enough information to assist you. What engine do you have, have you scanned the ECM, what is the DTC(s) that telling you it is the secondary air system, etc.?

Here are the codes we are seeing P0492 and P0491. Sorry for the slow reply I had to find the repair paperwork.

Here's is what the Bentley Manual states for these two DTCs:

P0492 16876 Secondary Air Injection System Insufficient Flow Bank 2

J299 - Secondary Air Injection (AIR) Pump Relay

Secondary Air Injection (AIR) Pump Relay -J299- , checking

N112 - Secondary Air Injection (AIR) Solenoid Valve

Secondary Air Injection (AIR) Solenoid Valve -N112- , checking

Secondary Air Injection System

Combination valve for Secondary Air Injection (AIR), checking function and for proper seal.

Most likely the secondary air injection system cleaning is needed. I would contact local Audi dealer first about the service. It might be still under emission warranty.

Emissions warranty for all vehicles sold in USA is 8 years/80K miles, whichever occurs first. Since the AIR system is part of the emissions system, you should be covered (unless you exceed the mileage limit), and have your Audi dealer repair the system.

I would not have known there is still warranty. I will look into it since I am at about 60k now.
