Default 4.2 V8 (MPI) with 190A Alternator

My 2004 A6 (C6) has the 4.2lt V8 40v (MPI) with engine code: BAT

I had the specs pulled via the VIN and this lists PR Code 8GH - Alternator 190 A

So far I've not removed the under engine cover to actually look but from what I've discovered online it would seem this car might have a water cooled alternator?

Since I got the vehicle in November last year I've noted my rear demister isn't functioning, when pressed the led lights up momentarily on the console then switches off by itself, Searching here has pointed me towards the voltage regulator as a possible cause.

I ran a diagnostics a couple of nights back and had this come up

Does anyone know if the voltage regulator can be replaced without having to remove the alternator from the vehicle?

To answer one of your questions, yes the alternator in your vehicle is water cooled. As for replacing the voltage regulator without removing the alternator...if by voltage regulator you are referring to the battery regulator, well that's in your trunk. I would also strongly recommend you check that your battery is good since the Quiescent errors are typically related to a low battery.

Thanks for the confirmation of the water cooling raj99.

And I did mean Voltage Regulator, that goes in the back of the alternator. as opposed to the Battery Regulator located in the trunk. I've found the replacement part online but unsure if it can be fitted without fully removing the alternator from the vehicle first.

Yet in your readout it clearly says "Address 61: Battery Regul. Labels: 4F0-910-181.lbl". Just saying

I would second what Raj said. Give the battery an overnight trickle charge, clear the stored error codes and scan again. You may even fix the demister suddenly works again with a fully charged battery, since the energy management system disables non-essential systems when battery power is low.

I appreciate your responses and I'll take your suggestions under advisement, however nobody has answered my actual question of whether or not the voltage regulator can be swapped out without having to fully remove the alternator.
