6-speed manual in A-6 S-6 for USA?

Sorry. No plans for that combo. Audi doesn't have a really nice shifting gearbox that can handle the
torque.
Of course BMW has delayed the delivery of the M5 until Summer/Fall because the SMG (no manual slated for the first year or two since it's slower and more prone to toasted clutches) cannot handle the power.

So, what can I purchase in a midsize AWD
and have a clutch for my left foot that is faster then my current 2.7t 6-speed? I know I saw a picture of a manual trans in the new A-6. Are there really no plans for the 4.2 FSI with manual other then the new B-7 RS4 6-speed?

Re: Old trans. Ain't happening. Indications are the S6 will use Torsen3 and AL600 trans.
For MY2008, Audi will phase out tiptronic and replace it with DSG throughout the lineup worldwide. Longitundinal DSGs will be 7 speeds; transverse DSGs will be 6 speeds. Eventually, all Audis with true Quattro AWD (i.e. with longitudinal engine layouts and Torsen center differential) will use Torsen T3, not just the S and RS models.

Re: 420hp V8 RS4 the highest spec to get manual. The 420/450hp V10 has too much torque.
According to Auto, Motor Und Sport, the FSI V10 in the new S8, new RS 6 and RS 9 will have 5.5L of displacement and produce 550 hp and 413 lbs/ft of torque. Unfortunately, I do not have the link for the article in Auto, Motor Und Sport saying this about the new S8, new RS 6 and RS 9.
