A6 foglight conversion to S6 DRL

Hello everyone! I'm a newbie to this forum and have read numerous articles that have inspired me to make some modifications to my C6. After performing a search, I was unsuccessful at finding a post for a conversion from the regular foglight setup on my A6 to the S6 DRL setup. Has anyone performed this conversion or is there a thread I missed that can help? Is it a simple swapout of the outter foglight grills and addition of the DRLs? Is it plug-and-play? Any help would be great.

If you are going OEM then you need to get the S6 Bumper as well because I think the S6 DRLs don't fit our Non-S6 bumpers correctly. There are AfterMarket options that will allow you to use your current bumper but if I was you I would go OEM or at the very least use Hella AfterMarket products. BTW, you have a 3.0T not a 3.2L.

S6 led conversion...

I did the conversion about 2 years ago. I have a 2007 A6 4.2, and decided to do the full conversion. It does not simply involve removing the stock fog lights and installing the S6 leds. I wanted the S6 leds to look and function just like OEM. So I bought a 2010 Audi S6 bumper from Audi, S6 Leds, lower S6 grilles, and S6 grille (which is still for sale btw). I had all of the parts painted brilliant black and installed by my body shop. Then came the hard part of installing the LED's.

Installing the LED's isnt extremely difficult but configuring them to oem settings did need some tweaking. You will need a harness to from OEMplus to properly install these, and a vag-com, which will enable your car to have the Leds function as foglights (with the coming home feature).

I had my led's wired to the fog light so when I press the unlock button the lights are illuminated. I also can control the Led's from the OEM light switch in the car and can turn them on and off as I please. Others have chosen to have them running at all times.

All in all its great mod if you are into aesthetics. It cost me about 1600 to do this modification. But if you were looking for a cheaper alternative you could just buy the LED's and install them on your existing bumper (if you have a S-line). Oh and you will need to install resistors because the Leds draw less current than the foglights and you will get a error message on the dash.

If you need help sourcing parts let me know. I hope this helps I'll look for the step by step write up, I know there is one on this forum... good luck!

Juju, thanks for the info. Yeah, I just saw that I typed in the wrong info. I appreciate the headup.

Nemisis, I am definitely a fan of have my modifications resemble OEM as closely as possible with money not being a factor, so I may have to rely on you for information. Thanks!

Hey dude.

I know this is from ages ago but this came up with a google search and I figured you were the best person to ask!

I have purchased the S6 bumper, which has been painted and installed, but my running lights are not connected. I have selectable running lights enabled in VAGCOM but they are currently set as my headlights.

This harness you mention, presumably this one:

http://www.oemplus.com/parking-light...nly-p-494.html

I have a few questions!

Firstly, is it all plug and play? Where does it connect to besides the running lights themselves?

Does it connect to the existing fog light plugs to thus cancel out the fog light warning?

Is this fully intergrated with the car? ie. selectable via MMI, dims with main beam and turn signal?

Sorry to ask all this but I'm in a bit of a pickle! Haha.

Thanks,
Adam

I am also a late-comer to this party, Admz and I've been doing some research too. I actually emailed oemplus about that harness and it's a "dumb" harness that is just designed to connect the LEDs in place of the fog lights. Using that harness the LEDs will *not* become DRLs, so they will not dim with the headlights, etc.

There is, or at least was, another device called the "APT-S module" that does seem to do everything you (and I) want it to: it allows you to install the S6 LEDs into an older C6 and have them function as DRLs which dim, etc. *and* work as fog lights so they do the "coming home" light, etc.

All the links to stores that used to sell it appear to be dead, though it seems you can sometimes find one on ebay.de:

http://www.ebay.de/itm/AKTION-TeamAP...item3a938d1271

There seems to be more involved than just this module, though; you need to wire in resistors somewhere to prevent lightbulb warnings, etc. That is as far as I've gotten. If you find out more let me know and I'll do the same.
