Default A6 Front Bearing Change

I have bad front bearings on my 2011 A6 C6. I currently have a 17mm inverted hex axle bolt installed. I was sent a replacement kit with a 19mm axle bolt. Did the dolt size change or is it just the wrong bolt. Is the head size different but the bolt still the same? I don't want to take it off and cant put it back due to the torque to yield issues.

I'm actually changing my CV axle this week, since I had a rip in it and also noticed that the bolt is not the standard 17mm in the vehicle, it appears to be 18mm. The replacement CV axle has a 17mm! I'll be documenting the install (taking pics and such), but just wanted to chime in that I also have 1st hand experience with this issue.

I think the bolts are the same but have different cups. tech prefer the 21mm 12pt one to the 17mm inverted hex. You can simply reuse the old one with new threadlock it you really preffer.

Replacing bearing is pretty hard process. it will require taking out the iron bearing from aluminum hub. which is pretty involved. It also might require taking appart the pinch bolt, which I would bot be a fan of. Professional shop charged me $100 in labor to replace the bearing. I considered it money well spent.

I literally went through this a couple weeks ago with my 2011 c6.

Amazon Amazon

This is the bolt I used twice..( long story)... same size bolt with a different head. Torque it to specs and you are good to go. When i had all the right parts, the bearing change too about 45 min.

Good luck!
