Default Aircon settings for Australia?

Hi all, I have had a 2006 A6 4f since Feb 2018. I live in Australia and the car hasn't been used much till now. I am wondering what settings people are using for the aircon? as it doesn't appear it is suitable for Australia. As anything over 25 degrees ambient temp and it struggles to keep the vehicle cool, it does have tinted windows.

The air blowing out the vents is cold and the fans on 12, it just doesn't pump enough volume.

Thanks.

Perhaps something wrong with yours aircon?
Get a vcds scan or run tests with vcds?

Yes, have the refrigerant evacuated and the system re-filled with the correct amount.

Before you start charging the system do check a few things. Check the temp of the air coming out of the vents, it should be around 50 degrees F or lower, you can convert to C. Second, see if the fan really is running fast enough, try cycling it through the speeds. Then check the cabin air filter, it could be clogged to the point of not letting air through. Then try setting to Recirc and see if air flow changes. Then carefully check the A/C compressor by carefully touching the input and output, it should be cold on the in side and hot on the out. There should be a noticable difference., that will show the compressor is working and there is probably enough refrigerent. These will help narrow down the cause and it could be a simple thing like the filter. Or then off to a professional A/C shop or your dealer.

In Australia also - just had the entire AC replaced (compressor and evaporator $5K), but the one thing that makes the biggest difference is the pollen filters that get completely clogged. These are $110 from Audi, but will fix the flow of air - particularly in the rear. Obviously have the system serviced, but DO NOT have the R134 replaced with HiChill (was implicated in the issues I had - and it's flammable).

Filter instructions here:

I tested the air temp on all vents. When set on Lo, they are all around 14-15 degrees Celsius apart from the rear centre which are 18 and the rear pillar ones which are 22.

I'll change the filters, but the problem is the air flow, it just doesn't pump enough volume. If the ambient temp is 30 degrees or above, driving for 10 minutes with the windows down and and then for 5 hours, does not even bring it down to a reasonable level. My excel and astra both 20 years old, can sit all day in 40+ degree temps and within 15 minutes of driving, i have to turn the aircon down to 3 as it's cold.

I'll try and find another car to test the aircon, but i think i will end up selling it. As it's just not practical to own in Australia, even in winter.

More than likely you need to have refrigerant added
