ATF equivalents
I’m new to the site, I just bought a 05 A6 Quattro. It has 100K on the odometer and I want to service the transmission along with other stuff. The local Audi dealer looked up my VIN and said I needed ATF g060 162 a2. From the dealer it is $40 a quart and the cheapest I found online is $20 for ZF and Febi brand ATF. Has anyone used US domestic brands of ATF? According to Valvoline their max life ATF meets the spec for the G-060-162-A2. Has anyone used this ATF?

My thoughts are also to go with the appropriate vw/audi or zf lifeguard fluid only.
That's all I use in my biannual filter & fluid changes on my 200k miles C6.
I, also, feel it's a false economy to jeopardize a ver expensive transmission with marginal fluid.
Personally, my transmission's coding was updated & requires LF6+.
I get NOS VW fluid @that spec, presently @$34/l. This may be expensive, but a blown trans will turn my '06 A6 into a "parts car".
Just my $0.02....

I have used Amsoil Signature Series Synthetic ATF in 3 different A6s (two 05's and and 07). Worked perfectly. I used their recommended fluids in the trans, differentials and transfer case.

I get some people want to err on the side of caution and only use Audi or ZF fluid. As long as the fluid meets the spec of the original it will be fine. There are not that many oil manufacturers in the world, neither Audi or ZF do not make their own ATF. If a quality manufacturer makes a spec fluid, it is fine with me.

I'm with those that have largely used OEM products in the case of my vehicle. When you can buy ZF for under $20/qt, I'd just stick with it and not have to worry.

Just to confirm...regardless of trans software version..we can use those trans fluids????
When i changed my 3.2 engine i went to dealer to get trans fluid to top of TC...based on vin..they sold me new fluid...later when i finished everything i learned i have 0010 software version..which means i top it off with wrong fluid..
fyi dont trust some parts guy..they dont stock old fluid..in case they need to top it off with old fluid...they would charge you for software update then flush fluid..
the best way would be to scan it with rosstech..see what you got and go by the book...
