In your case, the Autozone batteries are made by Johnson Controls who also happen to make Interstate batteries. Interstate are excellent batteries, so I'd absolutely go that route.

There is no way I'd pay double for the pleasure of having the dealer install it.
I've had an Advance Auto Group 49 battery in my 528 for over 6 years and still tests good. Starts in single digit temps no problem, though I haven't had it started for 2 weeks due to weather. Will check it out tomorrow.

Not C6 content, but on my current 2005 Allroad the OEM Varta battery lasted 9 years. I replaced with another Varta from the dealer for $156 plus tax, installed myself.

Other battery brands could also be good, but if the OEM one lasted fine through Canadian winters for so long, I figured can't go wrong with another OEM from Audi.

Any aftermarket battery was actually more.

Picked one up last weekend from Advance Auto. Instead of the H7 replacement in the list I went with the H8. The H7 is much shorter in length than the stock 94R that was in my car. The H8 is about 1/2" shorter in length than the 94R. It was listed at 900CCA and 160 reserve, larger than both the 94R and H7. Best part was it is the same price as the H7.

This is the one I picked up last Winter. Working great for me, it is a really good battery IMO.

Duralast Platinum/Battery

This product is a fit for your:
2008 Audi A6 Quattro 3.2L SFI DOHC 6cyl

Part Number: H8-AGM
Warranty: 3 YR

So a group 49 battery in a BMW is somehow different from one in an Audi?

Conclusion:

Went to Advanced Auto Parts, ended up spending $160 total for the new battery, when the stealership quoted me for $260 on OEM. Purchased the AutoCraft Platinum AGM H7 instead. New battery is a little bit shorter than OEM but still fits perfect and firm. New battery is has 900CCA while OEM has 600CCA. Everything has been working fine with new battery, no faults, no more dying battery, and it also starts much quicker and for some reason the steering wheel is also easier to turn (maybe low voltage to power steering).
Employee at Advanced Auto Parts installed the battery for me, took him 10mins. quick job.

I recommend this route over the stealership for anyone looking for a new battery for their Audi A6 C6 4.2

With the original OEM battery lasting nearly 7 years I decided to stick with OEM when it came time to replace it.

Me too
My 08 S6's battery died during a snow storm. Got it started and went to the dealer @ 5:30 Friday afternoon. Replaced and out running by 6:30. Costed $312.
I firmly believed that Audi OEM parts are more reliable.
