Black Smoke upon acceleration, problem???
Has enyone else experienced a small puff of black smoke coming from the exhaust upon acceleration. I have a 2005 3.2 A6. I have read that it may be due to a fuel/aire mix, but want to see if it may be due to something else.

If the smoke is blue, that means your car is burning oil. it could cuase by the piston rings have worn down and oil is getting by the piston. Keep an eye on your oil level. You will definately have to add some between oil changes.
If the smoke is black, it means that too much fuel is being dumped into the cylinder, and not all of it has the chance to burn. This is usually cause by a bad fuel pump or fuel injectors. You will get bad gas mileage.

And guys don't forget about the possibility of that being the carbon deposits being cleaned out as well. The FSI motor does create a little more carbon then normal engines. I used to clean my exhaust tips often, but they would be black within a couple days again due to the carbon. So I may be inclined to think that his car is just burning the extra carbon...?

As mentioned above and in this forum many times, some engines because of the way they are driven are prone to carboning up, there are several processes to de-carbon them which makes not only a performance difference but eliminates the smoke. AudiBug posted an excellent expose and DIY.
