Default Chain tensioner R&R

Quick question: Passenger tensioner is bad. Can I pin the flywheel and block the passenger cam before removing sprocket to get to the tensioner in order to swap it out or do I need to block both sides (drivers side and passenger side) 2006 audi a6 3.2L quattro.

+1 I've changed just one side (driver's side on LHD car) with only cam locks on that bank. Pinning the crank is essential however.

Default Flywheel pin location ? 2006 A6 3.2 Quattro

Hi!

Okay, long story short, I replaced the chain tensioner and rolled the engine over 1 full turn, no issues. Put everything back together and it won't turn over, lights go dim and I cant even hand crank it now. Removed the spark plugs to reduce compression and its still not turning over by hand.

So, I need to go back in and remove the cover (bank 1) to get to the timing chain tensioner - but this time, I need to pin the flywheel. It's not as easy like my BMW and I'm having a hard time locating the hole to pin it.
Can someone send a pic or directions to where the plug/hole is to pin this flywheel?

Thanks in advance.

Was it difficult to locate the hole to pin the flywheel?

It’s not hard to find the hole. You drop the suspension cross member, look at the driver’s side towards the centreline of the engine and there’s a recess within which a hex plug sits. Getting to it requires a stubby ratchet and the wrists of a seven year old ballet dancer.

Sorry to say if your engine will will not turn over there is a chance you’ve bent some valves, but you probably know that already.
