They are not doing a manual carbon cleaning for $500.00 Dealers will charge at least $1,200 to do a full manual carbon cleaning. I wonder if they are just putting in a BGK44 solution through a vacuum line and just doing a wash which doesn't do much to caked on carbon.

They certainly said it's a manual cleaning, taking off the intake, etc. $500 translates into 4+ hour of labor which should be more than enough time to get this done.

I asked them to take before and after pictures, which they said they would.

I'll have the pictures I requested tomorrow, and I'll post them here as well. For now as you can clearly see by the work order this was in fact a manual carbon cleaning.

As far as the results, they are rather dramatic. It feels like a totally different car. Rough idle and start-up are gone, although this will have to be confirmed tomorrow morning when the car is cold.

I had to take care of a few things this evening and was driving around town a bit. Acceleration feels much smoother end effortless, noticeably quicker. What is also surprising is that the transmission seems to be shifting much smoother. I was actually debating whether or not to change the fluid because it was behaving strangely sometimes, but now I'll leave it alone.

If you're thinking about getting this done I highly recommend it. Best $500 I've spent on the car so far!

As promised here are some before and after pics the service rep just sent me. He took them with his BlackBerry so not the best quality, but the difference is clear.

Wow that is the best price I've seen for a full manual carbon clean especially from a dealership. Great bargain!!!

Funking love this forum. Found so many solutions. My car never seen cold and today I've noticed that it take longer to crack up; then I ran into this forum So carbon issue? I did not change my plugs (still sitting in the box, waiting for the weather t warm up), nor did I change coolant.

Couple of people have told me to take my A6 to VW dealership for maintenance.
Up to 1/3 or even 1/2 what Audi charges.

Just the other day I got a quote for a new key from VW $210 vs. Audi $346, Cut and program to the car. $136 off saving not bad at all.

cebo0650 is great example.

My bad for getting off topic.

Crosby happens to be a VA/Audi dealership and technically Audi did the service for me but in any case it seemed like a great deal.

Now that I'm about 3 months after the carbon cleaning I have to report that while it did improve the responsiveness and eliminate the rough idle I'm still seeing long crank times from time to time.

I think it's simply time for a new battery which I hope to have installed on Monday. We'll see if that helps with the long crank.

Keep in mind that is Canadian $'s.

I have been having this issue recently too. Car has 121k on it. I'm not so worried about the longer crank as it is cold and a longer crank is normal. I have been getting a rough idle immediately after a cold start, the car shakes, and after the idle goes from 1200 rpm on start-up down to about 950 rpm(about 4-5 seconds) the idle smooths and the car drives fine. I have gotten a CEL which I have not had scanned. Some things I'm weighing though:

A: I am typically driving less than 7 miles at any given time right now.
B: I don't typically drive like I did 10 years ago (more casual with a very occasional throttle application of more than 50%)
C: I recently drove the car at highway speeds for about an hour. After the car sat for several hours, that following cold start-up was smoother, and in the days following it seems to have been cured
D: A week ago, my battery status in the MMI was under 50% for a couple days
E: I don't know how old my battery is
F: Coils, Plugs, and Fuel Filter were all replaced at 116k.

All of the above stated things are going through my head when this happens. I'm not sure if the issue is carbon buildup as I drive somewhat causally most of the time, or if the battery is getting weak.
