What makes my car need the NS but even the redline site says to use that other fluid (for hypoid limited slip diffs)? Thanks for your help man.
Yeah, I don't think they have the right information in that sense. We are using a solution "that works" and not necessarily the prescribed solution.

Most of the recommendations are for using the oil as a transmission oil, which is more sensitive due to different metals and precision parts in a tranny vs a simple open diff.

Like someone else said, I don't think the friction modifier will hurt since this is purely a lubrication liquid and has no other function, unlike a transmission oil.

Give the VIN to the dealer and buy OEM. It will be a lot easier and you will get the right fluid.

Ok. I get what you are saying. Thanks.

Kevin,
I did. They gave me these:

Rear diff - G052-145-A1
Front - dealer said I can use same as rear or G052-145-S2
Transfer case/box - G055-145-A2

I have found them on www.audiusaparts.com and www.parts.audiusa.com

A1 is $15.08 on https://www.audiusaparts.com/oem-par...-oil-g052145a1

A1 is $16.70 on https://parts.audiusa.com/productSea...rm=G052-145-A1

S2 is $24.62 on https://www.audiusaparts.com/oem-par...-oil-g052145s2

S2 is $27.26 on https://parts.audiusa.com/productSea...m=G-052-145-S2

A2 is $79.80 on https://www.audiusaparts.com/oem-par...-oil-g055145a2

A2 is $95 on https://parts.audiusa.com/productSea...rm=G055-145-A2

Those seem to be good prices, especially the $79.80 for the unicorn tears that's needed for the transfer case.

Are both of these sites legit? Is one site more reputable than the other? Thanks.

I got mine from Circle Audi back in 2013 and it was $64. Now, it's $76 there:

https://parts.circleaudi.com/p/AXLE-...G055145A2.html

It's $74 at DAP:

DAP is also cheaper for the A1:

Cal,
I just noticed something. From what I can tell, all of the genuine Audi fluids are sold in .5 liter bottles? Is that correct? Only one of the links that you posted shows a qty and it shows .5 liter. That was the A1 fluid located here: https://www.shopdap.com/g-052-145-a1.html.

I can only assume that all of them are .5 liter bottles. All of the redline and other fluids I have been looking at come in 1 quart bottles (basically 1 liter) so they are basically twice as much for the same price. Now I have a decision to make!!!! Ugh.

Yeah... I don't know about that.

I used Redline (1 Qt bottles) for the front and rear. The center diff fluid was definitely a full liter bottle and I feel like I have half a bottle left of it somewhere.

After doing ALOT of research and making LOTS of calls (to include dealerships) I decided to go with the unicorn tears (audi fluid) for the transaxle (found a 1L bottle for $80 and free shipping). Decided to go with the advice of the Redline technical guy (sorry cal3thousand) and use the MT 75W90 GL-4 fluid for the front and rear (I ordered (3) 1L bottles from Amazon today for $20 each).

I was going to go with the Audi fluid (G 052 145 A2 / S2) but couldn't get it in time (need it by this Friday) so I had to decide on the Redline between the 75W-90 API GL-4 that raj99 used, the 75W-90NS GL-5 that Cal3thousand was saying I should get or the one that I ended up getting. I hope I did not make a mistake. I will be doing it this Saturday.

A few pointers that I picked up along the way that may help someone in the future are:

The only difference between G 052 145 A1 and A2 is that the A1 is a .5L bottle and the A2 is a 1L bottle.
The G 052 145 S2 is the 1L replacement (newer version) of the G 052 145 A2 (1L).
So these 3 (A1, A2 and S2) are all basically interchangeable with the S2 being the newer version.

Also, here is some info on the differences in the GL fluid types. I'm still not able to explain the difference because I am no expert on what type of differential that is in my car but hopefully this helps someone else. :-)

https://www.oilspecifications.org/api_gos.php

I will let everyone know how it turns out.

Thanks.

@akingzkid How did these ^ fluids end up working out for your diffs and transfer case? Just wondering because I'm getting ready to change the fluids in mine and want to make sure I get the right fluids. Thanks!
