I have been changing the oil on my '06 A6 Avant using an MityVac Evacuator to siphen the oil out of the dip stick tube without any problems for the last several years. Since the oil pan in the 3.2L V6 is flat, the evacuator siphens essentially all of the oil out of the pan. By the quantity of oil I siphen (~6.9L), and the amount I use to refill, I believe I siphen as much oil out as I would if a drained it out of the bottom drain. This method allows me to keep the car on the ground, and not having to place the car on ramps and remove the belly pan to change the oil. So I change both the oil and filter very easily and without creating much of a mess using the evacuator.

Sounds good, Gary. Will do it this weekend.

Well I'm 100% done all maintenance on my C6 for the next little while, in the last 2 weeks did the following:

oil and filter
spark plugs
valve cover gaskets
air filter
fuel filter
Tranny fluid drop and refill (w/ZF Lifegaurd 8)
updated to latest Navteq maps

Everything was obviously in need of change, especially the oil, plugs, and tranny fluid. Thanks to this writeup things went very well. However, I ended up going to a trusty mechanic who did the tranny fluid and fuel filter for a very reasonable price, since I supplied all the parts. The job would have meant the better 1/2 of a day for me and he did it better than I would and is audi trained and had the vag-com to monitor and fill as by the book.

Does anyone have DIY on how to do coolant flush? Also, looking for all lube points which need to be lubricated at 55K service. Thanks

Now if we can just get DIY instructions on how to replace the brake pads and the rotors - that would be awesome!!

Front Pads

Rear Pads

Thanks so much for your work on this. Completed the 55K on C6 BNK 4.2 several weeks ago using this instruction, and made the maintenance a cake walk. Discovered a few potentially useful tips along the way. The S4 NGK's are a great replacement upgrade for the 4.2. "BKR6EQUP" or NGK 3199 seem to add a bit of fire; at least in comparison to my 48K+ O.E. plugs. Also, Valvoline SynPower Full Synthetic Motor Oil SAE 5W-40 is 502 and 505.1 and my motor is loving it. Great oil at a reasonable cost compared to what is popular out there. Amazon to your door. Thanks again for the excellent write up. Shared work like this makes Audiworld STILL the place to be for owner online reference. :)
