Driver information Panel dying
Hello all. 2008 A6 3.2 ..... My "Driver information Panel", the middle square color info panel, seems to be slowly dying, especially now winter cold weather it is mostly dark only showing up when the car warms up. It is getting worse and worse everyday. Is this some sort of a fuse problem ? or is this entire panel dying on me ? Am I looking at another $1000 bill ? I read somewhere that it might be related to a weak battery ? Mine is original (2008 with 105K miles). Anyone ever had this problem ? Any info appreciated, I do not wan to buy a new $1000 panel, I am sure they are $1000.

Keke, get yourself a new battery.
I don't believe your weak battery has anything to do with the fading info readout. Our 2006 car has been doing the same on the right edge of the display for about one year...doesn't seem to be getting worse. Most would never notice it.

I believe you're having this common problem: VW Audi Forum - The #1 Volkswagen (VW) Forum Dedicated to the whole Volkswagen (VW) Group
Mine has failed once or twice over the past year. I have already bought the two components required to fix it, but as yet it's not required.

Darnit, that sounds like a major job. I've never done soldering + with those vague instructions I am sure I would be soldering and whatever. But, yes, symptoms are exactly similar. I used to own an Allroad and those old red info panels had a serious case of dead rows, there used to be a guy in Chicago who you could ship the entire panel and you would receive it fixed in 3 days. I wonder if any similar service.

Ya, if you're not into soldering this isn't the sort of project to start on. Although it's not the most complicated soldering, it is surface mount so it does require some finesse.
I think I did see some places offering the service to fix this issue. Not that that option is really open to me in South Africa. Although I am confident in hand soldering SMD so not a problem.
You can find one of those places, or you can buy the two components and then find someone to do the soldering for you.
The two components you need are around $20 IIRC for both.
