Default Dumb question: front license plate

Okay, my new 2009 A6 came with a front license plate holder, just a license-plate-sized slightly curved piece of black plastic, with "A6" molded into it.

Now that the state of CA finally managed to send me my license plates, I need to install them. But how do I attach a license plate to this thing? Just self-tapping screws? Surely they must have intended something else?

Visit your local Audi dealer' parts department and ask for them. They will probably give the four (4) screws that you need (like they did for me).

Thanks Gary. But they are just self-tapping screws? I can handle that without going to the dealer. I was wondering if I'm supposed to do it that way or if I'm missing something.

Default No help?

80 views and no one can tell me how their front license plate attaches to the bracket?

I have searched parts vendors online, but no one has any pictures. But I see that there are "license plate brackets" and then there are "filler panels."

I can't figure out if the thing I have is the filler panel, or is the actual license plate bracket. I'd be hard-pressed to call it a license plate bracket since it has no way to mount a license plate. But it doesn't look like a filler-panel either since it's a tacked-on license-plate-sized thing.

Can someone help?

Pre-2009 license plate bracket has no drilled holes for the plate, even though it is shaped like a license plate. Audi used self tapping screws into the plastic. I assume it's the same for 2009. Filler panel is rectangular all the way across but that's for pre-2009. I believe no filler plate is used for 2009.

Post a picture of what the front looks like. Mine is a 2007 and has a license plate holder that is shaped like the license plate. It's a removable part for states that do not require front plates. I don't know if the same configuration applies to the 2009 A6-s.

I dont see what the big deal is, if it has the shape of a license plate and have no holes, make a hole, its that simple

Photo attached. The holes do not line up with a license plate. I have no idea what they are for. They do not hold the bracket to the grille, they are just holes. I'm thinking that maybe a bracket can mount to this plastic piece through those holes, then the plate attaches to the bracket.

I am willing to just use self-tapping screws if that's what Audi intended. But if there's a part I'm missing, I want to use that approach.

I like the clean look of it.

I would use double sided sticker and a few dabs of silicone sealant (applied vertically for drainage purposes). That way, when the car moves to a state that do not require front plates, the new owners will not be upset with the four holes.
