Default Dusl Mass Flywheel Replacement??

Hi,

I'm having more problems with my A6. I've got a 2006 2.0l Auto multitronic with on 50k miles on the clock.

When the car is cold everything seems ok, it's not 100% smooth, just a slight judder. When the car is warm and I start it there is a lot of noise and vibration from the engine when it starts , but after that it seems fine again. I took the car to a Audi specialist and without even looking at it and just hearing it start warm I was told buy the guy its the dual mass flywheel and it needs to be replaced.
He said he deals with Audi's all day long and its a known issue. He also said the part is a main dealer part and is around £400 and then £350 labour!

Does this sound right? Do you think it still safe to drive the car?

I've been getting quotes around the £700 -£800 mark.

I've looked around and seen the flywheel been advertised on ebay with the LUX brand, but struggling to get the right one for my car - even though it advertised.

Does anyone know if I can get the part or know of any good garages around the Ruislip/Harrow (west London) or Maidenead/Slough area.

Thanks

Ok..so its and automatic how the hell does it have a dual mass flywheel.....I think you need to find a mechanic that will open his eyes and actually look at your car so he sees its an automatic and not manual transmission.

good catch prospeeder...I didn't even notice that the OP had stated it's an auto. 100% agree with what prospeeder said. If your mech is talking about a DMF in a tiptronic, you should ask him how many automatic trannies he's worked on with DMFs...if the answer is anything but 0, walk away and go see someone who actually knows what they are doing.

Interesting - thanks guys! Not being very technical does it still have a flywheel of some sort may be not a dual mass one??

I'm taking it to another garage this week!

Thanks

Flywheels are only applicable to vehicles with clutches, meaning a manual transmission, yours is an automatic, hence no church....ergo no flywheel

Smart move, taking it to another mechanic

Not so fast. He has Euro spec A6 and 2.0 engine with DSG tranny, so then in deed it has a dual mass flywheel.

I was under the impression that "multitronic" was Audi slang for a CVT...not DSG. However, I do believe a CVT would have a dual mass flywheel as well.

No CVTs do not use a dual mass flywheel. And I too was pretty sure multitronic was referring to CVT transmission. Im not terribly familiar with the DSG transmissions but they do seem to have a DMF. Although they are better known for the mechatronic control unit failure. DMF failure on any of these cars is very rare. yet to have a failed one come through my shop and they have been putting them in Audi's since the 100's w/ 2.8 engines.

Is was the flywheel just like the one in the pic. I examained the flywheel taken out of my car and it was very loose and rattled! It's been replaced with LUX OEM part and with a 2 year warranty and cost me........ £659 gutted.

Thanks for your help.

Says who??? CVT boxes do use Dual-Mass Flywheel since they are controlled by 'clutch packs'. I just had mine replaced.
