Fixing oil filter housing leak (3.2fsi)
I had to change out my hpfp & removing the upper intake to do that gave me some additional access to the filter housing mounting. But, boy what a pain to still get too.
I've been fighting with the engulfing hoses and cables all afternoon, & I'm still having difficulty getting to two of the cap screws.
I'm giving up for today & I'll hit it fresh tomorrow....
At least, the pump change out went easy! & it's follower showed nary any wear. Not bad for 191k miles!

Hey Larry. Are you sure the bottom housing is the culprit? Did you try replacing the filter housing (on top) first? This:

BTW: I'm still having trouble with the three bolts that hold the housing to the block. They're some weird kind of head now hex, Allen, or metric 12 point. They're driving me nut!!!

New filter gasket & o-ring are supplied with each new filter. I always change them & make sure that they're seated well.

I completed the hpfp replacement, but gave up on the oil filter housing gasket replacement. I was not able to get wrench engagement on 2 of the 4 bolts. Now, the heads on those two bolts are somewhat stripped. That has me pretty frustrated, for now. But, the engine is running normal, again, with the fuel pump replaced.
Just that oil leak!!!
Also found that I need to change the lower radiator hose soon. I've got one on order.

Hey Larry, I have the same problem on my A4 3.2l where it I have a leak coming from the bottom of the oil filter housing. What was the weird head on that bolt that you were having problems with? I have the new gasket and going to tackle it this week and make sure I have the right tools first.
Thanks

I think it's a 6mm triple square. I stripped the head on one using a 6mm hex socket.
I have yet to be successful getting mine off & am still frustrated with my leak.
Let me know how you make out...
