I dont believe adhesive is the problem in my case because the squeaking goes away after the pads are warm.

There is a solution to this problem on TSB library under Audi A6 TSB List - Brakes Squeal. pfd.

My A6 is in the shop for its 15000 mile schedule maintenance. I told them about the squeaking proble and they are giving me the same old line about how they all do that and its normal and they will take a look at it. Lets see if they will do anything about it. By the way, I did try the ABS stopping procedure like the TSB said. It seem to help a little bit, the squeaking is not as loud and not as often now, but it is still there.

Default YES!! Akebono brake pads are amazing.

My old Lexus GS350 use to squeak alot more until I complain to the dealer. They replace the pads with low friction pads and the squeak was gone but the performance wasnt as good. I have started to brake harder on my daily drive. we will see if that helps, but I shouldnt have to drive this way all the time I hope.
for my Mercedes ML500 I bought Zimmerman coded rotors all the way around and Akebono brake pads. There is next to zero dust, I mean almost none. And the braking power is better than the Mercedes brake pads. Obviously have lasted much longer than Mercedes has also being that they throw less dust.

one of the things that made me happiest with those brake pads compared to Mercedes is that they do not leave a little too mmmm lip around the outside perimeter of my rotor like stock Mercedes pads did. It was almost like the Mercedes pads do not hit the entire rotor and I believe they design them that way on purpose..

but yes I highly recommend Akebono brake pads. Honestly the best big dogs I have ever used so far and trust me I have used many.

Did somebody really just revive an 8 year old thread with their very first post?

I believe the brakes pads start to squeal because the pads surface become glass like. This is happening when you use brakes with very little force for extended period of time. (a.k.a. "riding brakes"). I.e. when you go downhill and you apply brakes but with not too much force. The suface gets heated up for long time and turns the material into the glass. It goes away after several hard short brakings.
The glassing up also happening on the new brake pads because they still have resin compound in them and on the wet brakes.
The only suggestion to avoid squial is to avoid "riding brakes" for long time. Apply several shorter harder braking instead.

Since we're chatting up a super-old thread, I'll toss in some ideas:

Stock pads are semi-metallic. They will bite harder and last longer, but your rotors will get eaten up. They also have a tendency to squeal.

The Akebonos that most here are suggesting are ceramic. They are softer, have a better modulation/feel, less dust and don't eat rotors as much. They will not stop as well as semi-metallic pads, but for most situations on the street, it's basically negligible.

If you're riding fully loaded and stop hard and short, stay with semi-metallic pads. You likely won't notice much squeal. But if you don't drive like that more than 75% of the time, ceramics will reduce most of the cons in our brakes
