Default Gas Guage / Miles to empty display

On my recent trip the miles until empty suddenly changed from what seemed about correct to (about 50 miles) to something way incorrect (about 150 miles). When I put gas in the next time it said I should get 850 miles on this tank. Since then I have not really used the car that much so the guage still reads full after about seventy miles of use. After 70 miles says 550 miles to empty. Any ideas?

This happened to me once. Took it in and here's what I was told. Apparently our gas tanks are actually 2 tanks....or there's a partition in them to split them up. There are a couple pumps inside the tank to transfer fuel from one side to the other and it is through those pumps that the computer calculates how much fuel is in there and hos much it's using. A fault in those pumps or sensors will throw the fuel gauge and DTE readings off. Take her in and have the transfer pumps looked at. Mine just did it once and it hasn't done it since.

Do you remember what the fix was or how much it cost
