In my opinion you can't compare the 2.7T to the 4.2, since there is a gap of almost 100 HP.

Default 2.7T with upgraded software vs 4.2 is a better comparison

in which case I think the 2.7T produces more torque but falls a little bit short on the HP end....

C5 300 bhp A6 4.2 at altitude. My question was, "Does the extra 30 0r 35 hp really make that much difference?

Ahhh, make that an additional 85hp (250 2.7T stock vs. 335 in the 4.2).

Yet despite that the two would be within about a car length of each other at the end of the 1/4 mile

Default What I was asking was if the extra 35 hp between the C5 4.2 and the C6 4.2 make that much....

differnece in driving feel? The 50 hp differnce between the 2.7T and C5 4.2 did not make for a quicker car.

Just a simple question guys. Is there a noticeable improvement in power and handling between the C5 A6 2.7T and the new C6 4.2?

Default Had to go to Audi USA website for info..here it is.......

C6 4.2 335 bhp/310 lbs.ft. torque= 0-60mph in 6.1 sec.

C5 A6 2.7T 250 bhp/258 lbs.ft torque (6 speed) 0-60 mph in 6.1 sec. Tip 0-60 in 6.6 sec.

Don't know about handling but it should be excellent for a car that costs $60,000 out the door!

Default Handling was excellent on the C6 4.2 that I test drove. Perhaps not quite up to BMW, but still ...

...much improved over the C5 version (my test car had the sport suspension). The acceleration of the 4.2 on the C6 (335-hp) doesn't give the neck-snapping rush that you get with the 2.7T; its acceleration is IMO more sophisticated and linear. It gets you to speed very deceptively compared with the kick you feel with the twin turbos. Not sure how much difference the extra 35-hp vs. the C5 4.2 will make at altitude. It's got to help, but how much I couldn't say.

Default but for us with the 2,7T, it's good to hear how it compares to either 3.2 or 4.2 engine

it is tough for us 2.7t owners because I don't know if the 3.2 will provide that rush feel we are used to but the 4.2 is so expensive in comparison ...

I hope the 3.2 does provide that rush for my wallets sake.
