HOW DO I KNOW IF A6 has C6 platform??
 

How can i confirm for sure that an Audi A6 has a C6 platform??
Is there something under the hood... does it say anywhere?
How do KNOW for sure?

this question seems to come up every once in a while. i guess u r not alone in not being able to tell the differences btw the two. Most people on here are pretty passionate and have no trouble.

there are many things but to maybe the obvious i would say... from the outside look for the big oval one-piece grill design. the C6 has that the C5 does not

....from the inside look for the video screen in the dash and bunch of buttons around the shifter if its all integrated like a cock pit design then its a C6 if its not all inter graded but more tradition style then its a c5

as other said, there are many queues on how to detect C5 mascaraed as C6. It is much harder to distinguish C7 masked as C6. In my case they told me that it was 2006 C6, but I am sure they lied and it actually was 2013 C7. :)

I could be wrong here, but I'm guessing that the original poster's question arises from something that I just learned the other day. In Europe, the C6 platform was introduced in 2004. In the U.s. it's introduction came in 2005.

First thing that happens when someone says I have a 2004 A6 is, everyone jumps down his throat for posting in the wrong forum.

A guy was just asking for advice the other day about ourchasing a 2004 A6, C6 platform. Only after lookingg at the pictures he posted, did I realize that such a creature exits.

So.....yes, most folks will be able to tell that the platform is a C6 visually. But just last week if someone told me they have a 2004, I would have automatically said..."you, good sir, have a C5 platform". And I very well could have been wrong without visual confirmation.

just check the engine C6 has a 3.2 or 4.2

the C5 just has a 2.8, 2.7T, or 4.2 engine

if in doubt just take a picture and ask me Id be able to tell you.
