Default Replacing engine or selling A6 2006?

Hi everybody,
I have a big problem with my engine and need to replace it. A6 3.2 Quattro 2006.
The car is nice and clean, has about 100k, no any other major problems. Since it's my first time experiencing problems with engines, I want to hear from people who replaced their cars' engines. How long did you drive the car after it? Any problems? Is it possible to sell the car with replaced engine?
One of my friends told me do not invest in the old car and sell as is.

Advises are greatly appreciated.

Are you willing to share what caused the engine to fail at such an early time?

There is more to this story. Was the car purchased this way? Codes can out of nowhere? Driven for a long time after throwing codes?

This car probably needs some chain tensioners and valves. I'd probably try to fix this engine or at least do some further diagnostics before replacing. I just fixed an 08 3.2 with similar problems. Cost about $1500 in parts, but now has all new chain tensioners.

Default Depends on your plans

There has to be more to this story.. But it doesn't matter.

I personally would fix the engine and keep the car. Depending on the condition of the car its still worth upwards of $10k+ The timing tensioners and guides will need to replaced and the valves fixed if there is no cylinder damage or wall scoring.

It really depends if you want to keep the car or sell it. If you are going to keep it, fix the engine you have so you don't have to worry about buying a used one and having the same thing happen to it. If you're going to sell it, do whatever is cheaper, which will probably be buying a used engine.

Rattle sound is a chain guide issue. I'd fix this engine.

People have recommended Dion @ Drive Auto Works, not sure how far it is from you.

Before you come to conclusions on what you need, get an actual professional to do a full inspection and get their expert insight as to exactly the cause and cure for the issues.

Well, it kind of does. It's often an indication of how the vehicle has been cared for during its life and whether there is tons of outstanding maintenance right now. The failed motor might be the tip of the iceberg.

Yanika, the car gives a warning on the dashboard when oil level is too low. This would be long before engine damage might be expected.
