Default How is your A6 Coping?

Hi all,
I'm not sure if there's a thread on this already, but if so please point me. I'm just wondering how the 2009 A6 (C6 Platform) are holding up? I've just cleared the 100K on my 2009 Prestige edition. I had the carbon build up on valves cleared by the Dealership. I just replaced tires and front discs and pads. I'm just wondering if I should get out now, or if I've got plenty of enjoyable Audi ownership ahead of me?

Please let me know:
1. Your Audi A6 year, model
2. How many miles
3. Any of latest maintenance experience
4. If you're going to keep for long time

Thanks,

Jason

My C6 has been extraordinarily unreliable but it's honestly been worth it, such an amazing car.

I own a 2008 A6 4.2 S-line that's currently sitting at 147,500 miles.
In the past year, I've had the timing chains, engine timing, tensioners, and more done. Rack & Pinion rebuilt, did it myself in my driveway. Carbon buildup removed, valve intake gasket replaced, and a few smaller oil leaks addressed. I have also had a new radiator, water pump, coolant reservoir, coolant lines, and radiator fan installed, but due to an electrical issue, my radiator fan is currently not running. I am planning to have a switch-controlled one installed in the near future when I find time to do it myself.
Beyond that, I recently did an oil change and put some new tires on it, just standard 245/40/18s.
The only things it really needs is the front bumper realigned and it's slightly flaring on both the right and left side, and a fix to my radiator fan solution as stated above.

I love the car though, and I plan to keep it as long as I can, or until I can afford to buy some newer Audi or Porsche.

The C6 tends to become a maintenance nightmare around the 130k mile mark.

Our 2006 wagon has been great. Got it CPO @17k miles, rapidly approaching 150k miles. Wonderful car, probably the pinnacle of build quality for the A6. I'll miss it when it's gone.

I bought my '06 A6 quattro 3.2l with 151k miles on it 2 1/2 yrs ago. It's got 198 on it now. I'm shooting for 250k.
I bought vcds software & a laptop right up front. My driverside upper timing chain runs a little high on wear(6 degrees). So, I bought all the tools to change it, but it hasn't worn any more.
I do change engine oil every 5k miles & trans filter & oil fill every 15k miles.
Biggest repair was the hpfp(recently). Other than that, the abs module rebuild was the only other biggie.
Lots & lots of "little" stuff, vlv cvr gaskets, parking brake module, heater control valves, etc.
But, nothing major.
I did do the struts & shocks soon after getting the car, but they're normal wear items.
The only thing that really bugs me are all the oil leaks! They're tough to keep up with!!! But, I think they're a product of the synthetic oil(long snakey molecular) which also keeps our engine's durability up!
So, I've been enjoying this Audi as it ages and presents minor issues to keep me on my toes...

Please let me know:
1. 2005 A6 3.2 Quattro
2. 190,000 miles
3. Steering fluid leak, have to top off regularly. Looking to get it fixed soon. Battery may be going. Adaptive headlight failure, but still work as headlights very well.
4. Bought for fun from a PGA caddy for $3600 CAD 2 weeks ago, hope to keep it over the winter. (Live in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada).

If you do all your own work, keep it. If not, spruce it up & sell it to someone as a great "winter" car...

I have 2006 A6 wagon 3.2L. So far I got 184K miles of it with not so much breaking down. Besides regular oil and other maintenance and normal tires brakes replacements I had:

- replaced shocks
- welded the flex pipes
- replaces the wheel bearing on one wheel
- replaced starter motor and battery.

It is pretty much it. I am looking to get 250-300K out of it since the C6 station wagon is the best car I ever had and Audi does not sell the new wagons here anymore. If necessary I will replace the engine or other major repairs.
Out of outstanding items: It loses 1 q of oil per 1500 miles - I just add oil. The timing chains are +6 / +1.5 on the second bank. I suspect that at some point the chain guide will go and I will need to get a new engine. The battery voltage fluctuates between 11.7 and 12.4V - maybe the alternator/voltage regulator will fail soon. Also, upper / lower arm bushings will fail. but I do not see much point to fix these earlier.

2005 A6 Avant 136k miles
Oil changes and whatever needed every 5k miles
68k miles transmission replaced - water ingress.
MMI/Nav replace due to washer leak
Multiple interior sensor/switch issues.
High pressure power steering hose leak.
Valve cover gaskets x2, but the real leak is from the cam girdle seal, not sure what to do there.
Timing chain at 3 degrees, so I am holding off on that one.
Front end rebuilt.

The only repairs that tweak me is the transmission failure, I mean a heavy rainstorm for 30 miles and the transmission can't take it? And the washer hose connector above the electronics - who thought that was a good idea?

Car is at 158,000 miles major work:
Had ABS Module rebuilt
Oil leaks from timing chain covers and oil filter housing
Small steering fluid leak
self-inflicted wound required the replacement of coolant pipe at front
serpentine belt, idler, tensioner plus snub mount
rear door handle fell apart - poor work by body shop

Car runs very well
