Just had my H&R springs installed..

You guys weren't kidding...
My tech wanted my shoot himself. He gave me a quote prior to doing the labor.. still charged me an extra $100.. but, Well worth it...

I can't fit my head in the wheel well any longer!
It rides Nice with the 18"
Looking to slap on my summer set up real soon.. 20x9

Total Labor hours: 8-10
He had dropped the whole rear chassis
and had a seized bolt on the front passenger side.

Good luck to all that will attempt this mod.!

haha bye 04-16-2009 12:28 PM

What do you mean drop the whole rear chassis? Why and do you mean drop the real axle. Why so hard??

haha bye 04-16-2009 12:28 PM

Post pics

utripn 04-16-2009 01:15 PM

mine were done in 3 hours, the guy said it was not hard at all, you got ripped off.

haha bye 04-16-2009 02:11 PM

lol that sucks... Couldnt understand why he had to drop the rear "chassis" or axle or diff. Makes no sense. He gotcha with the old oh every bolt broke during the job.

utripn 04-16-2009 03:14 PM

that is funny ****!

Xavas 04-16-2009 05:17 PM

can you post before and after pix?

I'm interested in doing this myself. How much were parts, labor, etc?

jazznuts699 04-16-2009 05:51 PM

you have to drop the rear sub frame.... from what i remember

haha bye 04-16-2009 08:10 PM

sub frame is a lot different than the rear entire chassis and shouldnt take 8-10 hours...

G Kim 04-16-2009 09:00 PM

I did H&R spring on my S6 ...but it didn't take that long time though ..

I think sth wrong with that work ...

haha bye 04-16-2009 09:04 PM

affirmative.

STEALTH_6 04-17-2009 04:38 AM

Oh, take it easy fellas...
No need to jump all over me about it I'm only a fellow member..!

Why do I even come on here to tell the story..?

Well, I stand corrected .Jazz is correct .. what I meant was the sub frame.

Ripped off? I think $250 was fair.. I have seen $350 as the avg. charge on here..

So, Pump your brakes Dad!

pierreb 04-17-2009 05:14 AM

That's not a bad price at all for the installation.

BlueSander 04-17-2009 05:52 AM

This thread sucks without pictures!!!

You have my ideal garage, by the way. So I have the A6 locked down...now I just need to work on the Q7.

Your right, were not aiming towards you buddy, were all just tired of mechanic shops jerking people around. $250 is not bad at all...but for him to tell you that it took 8-10 hours and all the bolts broke and everything like that is a little overboard if you ask me. Maybe he should have looked up the torque ratings of the rear suspension bolts before working on it...

STEALTH_6 04-17-2009 07:40 AM

Thnx X!

Well, I do have a couple more mods to come in the next couple weeks..
~I have 20x9 wheels
~front lip spoiler (Thnx Jazz!)
~Brembo Brakes
~Rear valence w/ Porsche quad. tips (But, differ from most)

All parts are in my possession.. just need the time to have them done..
Between the Wife and kids.. I have no time for the gumada! (side piece)

STEALTH_6 04-17-2009 08:06 AM

Haha... agreed..

But, In all reality.. I know the Tech.. Old time friend..
I had made him aware of my readings on here..

The only bolt that gave him probs. was the (F)passenger side

He didn't want to snap it.. cause it would have prob. been a special order..

So, he sought other ways around it. I said 8-10 hrs.
But, in all reality.. I had dropped it off on Wed. @ 10am passed by later that afternoon @4pm they had stopped working on it..
And picked it up on Thurs. noon time...
So, I guess 8hrs .. give or take..
And yes.. The price was very fare.. considering..!

+ I didn't have to beat my head in with this job!!
I'm happy..
Uploading a ****ty pic.. now

****, $250 for 8-10 hours is still a steal. I got a quote here for 5-6 hrs for springs/shocks at $90-100/hr.

Were you non-sport suspension as well and did you keep the stock shocks?

STEALTH_6 04-17-2009 08:29 AM

yes.. stock shocks..

rides fine.. won't last as long...
But, I don't use my car all that much..
So, I'm good

STEALTH_6 04-17-2009 08:54 AM

close up.. AGAIN.. Sorry my car is so fcukin dirty!

Xavas 04-17-2009 08:56 AM

i need to do this. have always been annoyed by the huge gap

A4568 04-19-2009 07:07 AM

Three Questions. How's the ride? How long do you think the shocks will last? Anyone know if HR or Eibach make lowering coils for 2009 A6?

It rides nice.. No real reason for any concerns.
This past weekend did some highway driving..
The steering felt loose.. less firm..(not bad!)
Not sure if it makes sense or if its all in my head
And its not the alignment.. It drives straight... its just the feel of the wheel..

Other ?'s ... Not sure

RDD 04-20-2009 07:17 PM

Steering feel is definitely light and lags a little in the twisties.

joseaudi 04-21-2009 12:23 AM

looks like the eibachs are lower? not on paper though. check my pic post.

2008A6 04-22-2009 09:06 AM

Not sure about that..His rear pic looks pretty low - at least 2 inch drop. And it may even settle a bit more.

It has...

MikekiM@PureMS 04-22-2009 09:41 AM

There's no need to drop the subframe if you have the proper tools.

jazznuts699 04-22-2009 08:11 PM

stealth -- props on the drop -- looks good. i think i paid the same and my installer took about 5-6 hours hehe. What did you end up doing with the front lip? were you able to fix it?

hey you coming out to the spring bash?

STEALTH_6 04-23-2009 04:45 AM

The front spoiler is next..
I have that (needs paint) repaired like new (thnx again!), rear quad valence (needs paint), quad tips (differ then most), front amber makers (needs paint), and 20" wheels (needs rubber).
If I get everything done by then .. I will see you guys out there..

Fingers crossed..!

jazznuts699 04-26-2009 11:30 AM

awesome... my bro and i split the cost of a nice detailer kit off of detailers domain -- i hope to have it within the next week or so. We'll be cleaning up the cars for the bash :) hope to see you there
