Default Leaking Coolant Reservoir? (See Pics)

HI Guys,

I think my coolant is leaking. I need to fill it about every week. Pictures show splashes and liquid trailing. Once in a while, I see white smoke or steam, as if something has spilled onto the engine and is burning. I think its the reservoir. Any other possible causes? Any suggestion?

Red circle shows liquid - reservoir on the upper right.

Lots of light colored splash stain - reservoir on upper top.

Replace the expansion tank as step one... In my case I started there but realized I had more extensive coolant issues and after spend over $1k in new parts had a new radiator, hoses, water pump, serpentine belt, pulleys, etc...

Fwiw the expansion tank replacement is a super easy job and just have some spare coolant on hand.

There's also the upper radiator hose nipple which may be failing.

My replacement tank is on the way. Mine is leaking at the point that goes through the support on the back side. Got mine from this guy.

Default Hose clamps to coolant reservoir

Hi there,

this may seem a silly question, but regarding the clamps on the reservoir hoses, is there a correct way to release them?

The reservoir on my 2008 A8 L is also leaking, but the clamps look, well, unusual.

Appreciate the support.

Best Regards,

Michael Walsh.

I use vice grips. Adjust and then clamp down enough to release the tension and slide it back to get the tubing off.

Thank you.

I followed your advice and it worked like a charm, clamps came off easier that I thought.

I went with an OEM replacement tank from amazon.com. Around $85.00.As repair jobs go, this one was nice and easy...

Best regards,

Michael.
