Default '10/'11 A6 Navigation Updates?

I'm on my 4th C6A6 Avant! This one '10 3.0T Prestige with almost all the bells and whistles. I much prefer the upgraded navigation system over the '05-'09 versions! My question! I see the navigation system initializing on startup occasionally. Is it continually upgrading maps or what's going on? Not complaining just wondering what's going on and if there is something else that should be upgraded.

The startup screen that you mention is merely the MMI loading the map data from the hard drive into system memory. It's like when you open a program on your computer. It takes a few seconds for that program to load and start working. The 3G MMI in the C6 has no cellular connection (except for rSAP in Europe, which is only for phone calls), so it can't update maps. And even if it could, Audi likes charging in the $260 range for those updates...
