Default MMI sceen is completely out again this am.

I got in and couldnt get anything to work on the screen. radio wouldnt work and nav and of course all MMI functions. This has happened 3x. Sometimes it just freezes up on mute. After each time I was able to get it back for a few weeks after shutting the car down and restarting. The car is a 2007.

Anyone ever have this happen?

Thanks,
Brandon

I've had the MMI not start up occasionally. The three finger salute has always brought it up though. I've just attributed my mishaps to a very dated version of the MMI software.

Default Probably a component failing

I've been struggling with this problem for several months. If the splash screen comes up for a second or two, then it's probably not the MMI itself, but one of the components failing.

The most likely culprit seems to be the bluetooth module, but it could be something else. In may case, after replacing the CD changer and the bluetooth module, my dealer finally traced the problem to the Dension Gateway iPod interface. Since they disconnected the Dension, the MMI has been working fine, but now I can't listen to my iPod.

My radio started to hum and wouldn't go away. I would turn it off only to have it come back on doing the same thing. Dealer put some type of upgrade for the radio but now I'm having other problems. The mmi screen would't display the seat controls or fan speed. The dealer fixed that today but now I can't control the speed of the fan or heat for the seat with the control ****(the big one) that sits in the center.

So in short I guess you could need the upgrade but beware of other problems.

Normally MMI system malfunction such as described are cause by a sticking button or a beverage or any liquid spilled on the buttons will short out the controls.Even if you clean it up well and think ok im good now it work that not the case normally it takes a while for it to to corrode the contacts inside the module. Also in addition if a button is sticking due to a beverage being spilled or another cause if could fry the 07 module which is the main MMI Interface.

Its also possible one or more module on the Infotainment bus are no good such as bose amplifier, bluetooth module, comfort convenience module and so on.Any of those module can cause the system not to work at all.Pretty common on a6.
