Default Oil Change interval

Hi guys,

First time Audi owner here. I am wondering what everyone here is doing as far as oil change interval. Audi recommand 12 months or 10000 miles, is everyone following that or changing the oil sooner?

I think this is what we'll do. I'm going to sample when I drain it to see what's going on. The oil is very dirty in these cars as soon as it's changed. I guess it's a side effect of direct injection.

The color of the oil have nothing to do with the life of the oil. I sent oil out at work to be analyze that looks pretty dirty, most of the, it comes back good result. That’s why I ask here what is the interval that most people change their oil at. I know that in the BMW forum, owners have sent out their oil at 10000 miles, which is black oil at that point, and still came back tested good.

Color does give an indication as to how dirty things are within the engine. When the oil is black within a week or two, there is a message there. However, I agree with your point that performing UOA is the way to accurately gage the oil's condition and possible extension of drain intervals. (I'm generally a 10k mile interval kind of guy assuming I've got some method of verifying the oil's on-going ability to provide adequate protection.)

Actually the oil in the 3.2 will start looking dirty in about a week due to the unique FSI setup. Hell mine looks black after 3 days and I change mine every 5k. So with these cars, and synthetic oils the color says absolutely nothing about the state of things in the motor.

I have mine changed every 5K miles. When I bought the car I asked the service tech how frequently I should change the oil and he said "every 5,000 miles if you bought it and every 10,000 miles if you leased it." I also note that the service interval on the car defaults to 5,000 miles.

In Europe, it is written 10.000 KILOMETERS, which comes to around 6.250 miles. I believe, it is correct way of changing it. Not 10K, nor 5K......in between.... p.s. only Synthetic, only 0-W40 (if u drive fast and aggressive, AND living in cold/moderate climate)

x2. Exactly what my service advisor said. Makes me wonder why I would even consider buying a car that came off lease.
