Oil change opinions needed

1 Attachment(s)
Took my A6 with 45000 to dealer for oil change today. Last change was 35000. When I got home, I pulled dip stick, kept wiping it off waiting to see if I got clean oil. Here is a pic of oil. To me, it locks like oil with 10000 miles of engine wear on it. What do you guys think. Picture attached taken in direct sunlight on a white envelope. In hindsight, I should have taken a look at old oil before I went.

Another reason to change the oil yourself.

When I take my auto in to have the oil changed, I go in the service bay and watch what is being done.

How many miles did you drive before checking? I would say that within 100-200 miles of driving after an oil change it looks dirty again. Looking at your pic, my oil looks darker than that at 10k. Probably nothing to worry about.

Even new clean oil looks somewhat dirty after an oil change because it picks up pigment from the remains of the old oil. If you really want to flush out all of the old black stuff drain your oil, fill with least expensive synthetic you can find, drive a few miles then change again with the good stuff.

Simply draining the old oil does not remove every drop of it nor the old oil that is still coating the internals of the engine.

No matter how you change the oil, you are bound to leave some of the old stuff in it. Our cars turn the color of the oil very dark very quickly.

But the main thing to remember is that the color of the oil is irrelevant to its lubricating properties.
