Kevin, I think now that the timing components are done (presumably with the updated parts), you will be good for another 120k miles at least.

My A6 has 165k miles, and I've just done the timing components (and a bunch of other stuff), similar to what Kevin had done. Probably 4k in parts, including the new Xenon AFS headlight (stupid expensive headlight!) that I had to replace due to the high-beam shutter not working.

Anyway, I still love my car. Even though it isn't necessarily cheap to fix. Since I do my own work (yes, even the engine pull for the timing guides and tensioners), I only concern myself with the price of parts. Audi is odd, as some things which you expect to be expensive aren't, and things which should be inexpensive aren't as well.

I love the car but I am considering getting a 2015 RS7 as my daily driver and relegating the 2005 to snow car status. I have also been very impressed with the A6 TDI that I have had as a loaner for the last month. Of course my wife and daughters will tell you that I will never get rid of my pampered old car.

Hi Kev,

Well that list should be a sticky on this forum

BTW, when you get the RS7, I want to see pics...those are absolutely lovely cars. I have a neighbor who has one and it looks good from every angle!

The 4.2 would make a great winter car. But the newer diesels are great and the interiors are certainly refreshed.

I have an 05 4.2 that I purchased new 9 years ago. She currently has 139k on the odometer. As far as reliability, she is ok, but she is no Lexus. But she is a lot of fun to drive. I recently reviewed most of the service records on my car and have put together a list of the service, maintenance and repair records. I believe this list will help show others the problem areas that I have experienced over the years and show what maintenance items to expect as our cars get older and have higher mileage. You should understand that I can be a bit crazy when it comes to my old car and that I want everything to continue to perform as it did when the car left the factory floor.
