S6 k&n filter kit......
Found k&n has a filter kit. 120 for both filters. They look like cones that sit in the airbox. It is also 50 cheaper than the msds. What do you think?

K&N only came out with the filters for S6 recently. I do not think anyone has tried them yet.
Do it and let us know how it is! |

K&N filters offer no advantages. There have been studies that show paper filters do a better job filtering dirt and they do not have any oil vapors which can deposit on the hot wires of the mass airflow sensor. But of course with the OEM filters you don't get a decal for your windows…

Please do not spread misinformation...
Simply put you are wrong. Let's just leave it at that.

If you want I can dig up a bunch of references. I looked into this in detail with my S6 because the previous owner had installed one and after doing the reading determined that it was not worth the money. It may not be much of a difference between K&N and OEM one way or the other so do what you like. I bet if the oiled filters were so much better and offered either higher fuel economy, more power or longer engine life you would find them installed from the factory.
Here is just one reference: http://www.nicoclub.com/archives/kn-vs-oem-filter.html This shows that the K&N has lower restriction when clean but is a less efficient filter and clogs faster than OEM paper filters. Personally, I want my engine to last longer so I will stick with paper because they filter better. I may lose a couple of horsepower but I am willing to pay that price. |
In your first post you state that K&N offers no advantage, then you state that you will choose a paper OE product due to 'filtration' even if there is an advantage.
Please choose one argument for this topic and stick with it. * When used and oiled / replaced properly performance filters will flow better and not spread oil to other engine parts. * I have not heard of one engine going due to a proper use of K&N filter. Also, please note that many high performance modded vehilcles use performance filters over OE with no problems. If a perfornace filter is good enough for a 1000+HP 996TT, it should do just fine in our setup. * I have personally witnessed more TQ gain from the filters then I did with my Milltek catback. I think you should get a set and see for yourself what it does in combination with other upgrades. :) |
I have K&N installed in my S6 and it was easy job.
