Hi all. I know that there have been a few threads on this, but there is not yet a definitive answer.

My car seems to make a loud crackling and static sound only when the car has remained parked up for quite a few hours. It is also not guaranteed that this sound comes all of the time after being parked (for example it happened in the morning for the past few days but today it was fine. A video of the noise is shown below:


If the noise does come, turning the car off completely and locking it for a few mins then unlocking seems to fix it and all speakers, amp etc are still working fine.

The problem has baffled two mechanics that I have taken the car to. Any ideas?

Have you found an answer yet? my A4 does the same but in short bursts 1/5 second no longer while driving very randomly too.
Hard to pinpoint since it only happens maybe 2 or 3 times a year.

Yes I took it to a garage and they plugged in the VAG. Was the grounding on the antenna that was the problem. For me the problem was once every 2-3 months, but then it became close to everyday. Better to get it seen to for the sake of your eardrums!
