Strange behavior - Parking brake engaging/disengaging - from Reverse to Park -
Hello everyone, I have a 2008 A6.
I park in reverse in my garage. Sporadically, after reversing into the garage, and switching from Reverse to Park, (and generally turn off the car), I can hear the parking brake engaging and immediately disengaging.
It does not happen every time... and it is not logging any codes.
Dealership cannot reproduce.
Thoughts?
Thanks!

Someone here will certainly know better than I but I believe I read once that the noise is the brakes adjusting automatically. Sort of a weird hydro-mechanical noise that occurs sporadically under the conditions you describe.

I agree that it may be normal function. Be sure to cycle your electronic parking brake periodically; it seems to prevent problems.
I would keep an eye on this, however. Many people (including me) have had failures of the electronic parking brake. You'll get an error alert on the message panel, and sometimes the brake can be difficult (or impossible) to disengage.
It's a very expensive fix at the dealer to replace the module; I think my dealer charged $1600, covered by warranty fortunately.
Between the expensive failures and the hassles of messing with the system when changing rear brake pads, I wish Audi and the other Euro manufacturers would go back to the tried and true (and much cheaper to maintain) manual parking brake.
