Default Ticking Sound - Engine A6 C6 4.2 2005

Morning guys,

my car is having a ticking sound in idle, as you can see at this video that i made (
). It's weird, comes and goes, intermittent. No lights, no lack of power, nothing.

Werid, seems like hydraulic tappet.

Is the sound coming from the rear of the engine?

Yes, the sound came from the rear, just in idle, and comes and goes, not permanent.

Sometimes i think it's the coils, or injectors.

It may be the dreaded timing chain tensioners and guides. It is the Achilles heal of the 4.2.

Run a vagcom scan on the engine module & look at the measuring block 93 values. Those will tell you the condition of the tensioners.

Hi, i made a video of the scan. Here is the link:

Also, some months ago, i scanned and had misfires on cilinders 5 and 7. Was the fuel rail that was a little loose.

Today, when i runned the vagcom, again appeared this codes

5 Faults Found: 16684 - Random/Multiple Cylinder Misfire Detected P0300 - 001 - - MIL ON 16689 - Cylinder 5 P0305 - 001 - Misfire Detected - MIL ON 16691 - Cylinder 7 P0307 - 001 - Misfire Detected - MIL ON 16690 - Cylinder 6 P0306 - 001 - Misfire Detected - Intermittent 17981 - Left Engine Mount Solenoid Valve (N144) P1573 - 004 - Open Circuit Readiness: 0000 1000

Now, have on the cilinder 6 also. Strange because, i noted that this clicking sound occurred at same time when i first runned the vagcom months ago.

I've erased today, put the engine to run, and until now had code about misfires.

It's possible this sound be just because this misfires?
