Default tiptronic oil change, worth it?

Hi,

the oil was never chenged in my A6 tiptronic trans. It's at 155.000 miles.

The trans has a slight issue, the rev is waving a little bit at certain speed/rpm/gear. Apart from that shifts smootly.

My question is, shall i get a full oil change done for about 400$ here in Hungary hoping it will extend its life considerably or shall i wait until it's fully worn and do a full rebuild for 2000$?

I don't use the car much, about 6000 a year, not planning to sell it soon.

If you plan to keep the car, change the oil. ZF, the manufacturer of the transmission suggests 60k miles as the change interval.

If you do change the oil Gigford, please come back and tell us if it helped with the revs fluctuating. Will be interesting info.

I always thought the oil in these trannies were “lifetime” oil? Isn’t the fluid mainly used for valves and such, not actual gears get lubed with this trans oil

Audi’s claim of lifetime fluid is rather suspect, if not an outright lie, since the tranny manufacturer, ZF, suggests 60k mile fluid changes.

Transmission fluid has lubrication, hydraulic, AND cleaning functions. And lifetime depends on your definition of lifetime. If you took this car to 1 million miles, do you seriously think the original fluid will get it there? Is there any time that old fluid is nearly as good as new fluid?

Change the fluid and the filter. Just be absolutely sure you get the right fluid for your trans and software level.

Yes buying the Liveguard fluid is expensive, but not as expensive as a transmission swap. If you break it down, $250.00 for fluid, filter and gasket over 60,000 miles, really isn't that bad.
