My wife has a hard time avoiding potholes. I have had two wheels that had to be straightened due to slight deformation. I'm ready for a new set of tires and I'm thinking about going to 245/45r18 tires instead of the 245/40r18 that it came with. There looks to be plenty of room in the wheel well. The current generation A6 uses the 245/45r18 tires. I know it will be a softer ride, but she would be better served by that. Will it have any effect on the ABS? I know the speedometer will be off by 2-3 mph. Anything else to consider?

Most speedometers read a few MPH fast. Larger diameter tires may bring the readings back towards the truth.

The difference is so minor that it won't change anything. Make sure the tires are properly inflated and consider changing to 17 inch wheels.

Remember that you have 8" wide rims.
I was thinking about going to 255's, except the tire manufacturers list 8.5" as the minimum rim with for that size.
