TPMS Malfunction Random On and Off

1 Attachment(s)
Audi Folks,

2007 A6 3.2 with approximately 130K.

Was having the typical low tire pressure warning light during the winter...turns out I had a slow leak in one tire.
Replaced the tires two weeks ago. No issues at all until this past weekend. TPMS Malfunction came on. I figured a dead battery or maybe the tire shop damaged a sensor. But the latter would not explain the delay between the new tires and the warning light.

Now I get the TPMS Malfunction lights coming on and off. Yesterday, it came on during my commute then when I drove home it was off. This has happened several times and once it went off on its own while I was driving.

Any thoughts on the random on/off of this light?

Thanks.

CGabb

I think you've got to start with the basics: verify all tire pressures when tires are cold, reset TPMS system in MMI.

Tire shops have been known to destroy the in-wheel sensors. A battery could be at the end of its life, too.

I would guess the batteries in the sensors are starting to go. Have they ever been replaced?

Check measuring blocks on tpms module... On my euro system I can see volts on each sensor and approx lifespan.., :)

I just had new tires put on my 2006. My TPMS came on the next day. The tire shop swears they didn't damage my sensor. I have a AUTEL TPMS tool and verified a dead sensor. I ordered a new one on Amazon ($37). They say 10 year life span for these... which I am beyond, so I am okay replacing them one by one.

Bad battery... I think these are sealed units so will need new ones.
