V6 tdi 2.7 smoking. Advice please!
Hello all, my name is Paul and i live in Yorkshire, England
I've had my 2005 A6 avant for over a year and really like the car as a daily driver
I'm trying to find a remedy for an issue that started a few weeks ago, where i have noticed light grey smoke, especially after the car is warm and has done a few miles at highway speeds but then sits in traffic in towns and i notice the smoke. It can sometimes seem pretty bad, for example when in traffic and 15-20 mph in 2nd gear, in those situations where it has warmed up
I ave searched a number of forums for ideas and found a number that suggest injector issues, but a local mechanic i asked, wont even look at the car and suggests fuel pump failure / debris and told me to get rid of the car.
The car drives very well, shows decent fuel economy and the oil level seems perfect,
I would very much appreciate any advice please. The car has just passed 100k mile and has a full history

Sounds exactly like the very common injector failure on these early V6 TDi's. Check the trim values on Measure Blocks 72-77 using VCDS. There is an Audi TSB which explains how the first value for each injector should not be more than -45, and the second value not more than -15 ms. (i.e. bad is -60 and -20 ms). Quite often these values aren't out of spec but the injectors are still dribbling at idle, which is likely what's causing your problem.
