Default Will the A6 ever get its stick back?!

I have a 2001 A6 2.7T with the sport suspension, sport seats, and a beloved 6-speed manual transmission. I'm ready to get a new A6, but alas, they haven't had a manual transmission for a few years now.

Will the A6 ever be available with a stick anytime soon? (I don't car for the Tiptronic at all!)

I think the 6-speed should be at least part of the current S-line option package. How could we lobby Audi to bring an A6 stick to the States?

If Audi doesn't get put a stick in the A6 soon, my next car will be a BMW 528xi with a *manual* transmission.

Thanks,
Ira

ummm...it has a stick...in Europe. American lux buyers don't know how to drive stick.

Default I agree. With no manual I will also be going to BMW. Too bad.

I have a 2000 A6 2.7T with 6 speed manual transmission with 112K milss. I'd buy a new A6 if it had a manual trans option. Without the opton I will be going to a BMW 535xi.

Default you should at least drive the C6 if you haven't...it's not the C5 tranny at all, especially in S.

but I don't blame you for feeling that way.

my decision was based on traffic jams in Boston, more than anything...but my wife's a stick and I love driving hers too.

Default Given only 6 to 7% of all A6 (including Allroad) were sold here with stick, and the cost to certify

them, it's going to be a long shot.

Depending on what you want on your 5 series and where you are located, good luck finding one in stick. I understand even finding one to test drive can be a challenge. I had a friend who wanted the 330 with sport and stick w/o it being loaded to the hilt. There was only one car in 4 states - and mind you we're on the west coast where everybody's maid drives 3-er! :-)

Drive a BMW 5 or 3 xi and then an Audi. The xi's are not what you think and certainly not BMW ish.

Default There will probably be no traditional manual transmission in the near future

All manufacturers are selling less manual transmissions. Most younger drivers dont want to be bothered with it. Clutchless stick shifts, that can also change automatically, will probably replace the traditional sticks.

Default what's the difference.....?

have you spent significant time in the driver's seats of both cars....?

i think there's a difference between from a stop, turning the wheel and flooring it between quattro & xdrive...quattro pulls better. maybe a bit better during sweeping turns.

however, i don't think there's a big difference if we're talking weather. i've driven my xi in 2ft snow storms, ice, heavy rain, and the car is planted just fine. same with the Audi. Audi's system is more mechanical and always on, vs. xdrive which needs more computer input to tell what & when. the system works though.

in a snow storm driving to a hospital 2 hours away, i'd have no issue with taking either cars, being the C5 avant or 525xi.

Default That's very true. We owned both BMW and Audi for quite some years and wanted to buy a 530xi to

replace the 3 series. The two 5xi that we drove were very different than we expected from the familiar feel of the BMW. Vague on center feel and average handling from a BMW was not what we expected. My wife opted for the Audi Avant over the BMW even though the Manual on the BMW was a must have. The Audi was clearly the better choice despite the automatic.
