is your A6 vibration-free?
Hi all, I am multiple Audi owner coming off a 2002 S8, about to purchase a 09-10 A6 3.0T. I have owned 3 C5's (98,99,01) in the past, all with some sort of minor but annoying vibration you'd think was wheels/tires but wasn't. So before I jump back in to A6 the question is: are most of the C6 A6's glass-smooth driving? ...that is, no constant vibration feeding back through the steering wheel at cruising speed (55-75mph)... (I am aware of the hot-day low-speed, turning judder/vibration and am not asking about that; and not talking about just feeling all the irregularities of the road). It would be reassuring to hear from some of you who think your steering is like driving on rails (the way the old B5 A4's always did).

Mine is. |
Very solid and vibration free

As long as no one has turned the wheels square they are very smooth.

As long as the tires are fresh with a road force balance its silky smooth. But put 20,000 on a set a of tires and forget it. Everyone of my Audi's has eaten tires for breakfast, I don't care what brand you put on. Never seen a vehicle trash a set of tires so bad. I can break and separate the cords on any brand of tires I throw on this Audi. Yet my truck, I'll run them past 80,000 a set, go figure. All my other cars are easy on tires too, but not the Audi, I just don't get that. Maybe my sport suspension kills them, but I find that hard to imagine too. It's the one thing that really bothers me about my Audi.

Smooth as butter as long as you get your tires road-force balanced. The C6 A6 seems to be very sensitive to improperly balanced tires.

'06 A6 Avant, vibration free w/ 55K miles on the dial

I'm vibration free ever since I changed my tires and replaced rotors

BTW, my previous '09 A4 did have vibrations thru the steering wheel, but that was related to the well-documented control-arms issue which was fixed under warranty and no problem thereafter. |
