2013 A7, need an extra key
Purchased my A7 about a month ago, only came with one key. Dealer wants $500+ for a new key and to program it. Can I purchase a less expensive key online and have it programmed or am I just stuck paying the dealer? Oh by the way it's a 2013 A7 Prestige.

I went through the process a year ago. Bought a used 2013 A7 that came with only one smartkey. I tried to order a new one from the local Audi dealer online, but the order got cancelled the next day. I learned that I had to go to the Parts dept in person and show them my registration, VIN, and drivers license. Note that the smartkey has two parts: the transmitter ($170) and the emergency key ($70). A few days later the key arrived at the dealership. I went to the Service dept and they programmed both the new key and my old key. It took about 45 minutes including a wash and cost $70 for the programming. So, it cost $310 all in. The Parts Dept guy was very apologetic for the inconvenience and the annoying smartkey policy.

getting a key from dealership can run around $500 but i think you can save money by programing it yourself and just buying the key from the dealership. I have seen instruction flowing around web regarding programming smart Audi keys.

I cant see the plate, but if the car is in the USA, I would be able to get you an extra key for way below the price they quoted you. Most likely around $250 give or take a couple of bucks. Id need your VIN to get you exact pricing. All you would need to do is place the order on our page(i would give you part numbers) and email me over some proof of ownership(license and title/reg/insurace) and we can get it going.
However, you would have to make sure your local dealer would be willing to program a key from another place. A lot of dealerships wont.
