Default Big Dilemma

Three weeks ago I ordered :
A7 Quartz Gray with Nougat Brown and Ash wood
Black Headliner
Prestige Package
Driver Assistance Package
20 " Sport Package
Full LED Lights
Rear Side Air bags

No build date yet. The dealer has on the water about a week to two away a very similar car the only differences Polished Walnut instead of Ash and no rear side air bag option. I am in an A8 which my best friend is buying for his wife.
The dealer is going to hold the car for me when it comes in so I have first shot at it. Both woods are beautiful, any opinions out there?

I'd take it vs. waiting 3 months.

This is a very personal thing. As far as the wood, it makes very little difference. But you ordered the Rear Side Air bags for a reason.

I regularly take my grandchildren in my car. Had I gotten into an accident and one of them suffered an injury that the rear side air bag could have minimized or eliminated, I don't know how I would live with myself. For that, a 3 month wait to me is a very small price to pay.

This is my business car, I have 2 thirteen year old boys that are in my car about once a month that is why I ordered the rear side air bags. I feel the same way, just struggling with the long wait. Most dealers will not order a car for their lot with rear side air bags due to the fact that are not to be used with very small children or babies.

Then I don't understand why you even asked the question when you already have the answer.

He asked the question because he was struggling, even though he already knew the answer.

I'll be the voice of disagreement. I love the ash wood in my A7 and have had many comments on it and its not something you see in very many cars right now.

Although I agree to be in the same shoes as you I would probably jump at the one on the boat...

My A7 has been on order for two months. I have about 45 days to go. I am willing to wait because I am going to keep the car for 10+ years. If I had settled for a lot car that lacked a feature that I thought was cool, I would have 10 years to think "If only I had waited 90 days, I would have had that feature". If you intend to keep the car for a long term, I would suggest that you wait to get the car that "you designed". If you are renting the car for a few years, then you may want to satiate your desire for this awesome car as soon as possible and get the perfect set of features in your next car.

My Audi A8 was the first car I have kept over 3 years. I ordered it to my specs and still love it. Now after 5 1/2 years and no warranty left I am ready for a change. I will most likely wait for the car I ordered, I plan on keeping the car for 5 years. I would really like a build date to give me some idea of when I will get the car. I was told that Audi is running at full capacity on the A6/A7 that's why the long wait. When I ordered my A8 they had it to the dealer in 7 1/2 weeks built to my spec. including a non common color that was an upgrade $. Thanks for everyone's input this is a tough crowd.

I had the opportunity to meet with the regional sales manager at the local auto show. He pulled up my order on the Audi production site and displayed my production date, completion date, Germany ship date and Houston port arrival date. All of the dates were based on algorithms and not guaranteed. My dealer is able to follow most of this and I believe that your dealer should be able to as well. My sales rep has been very diligent in giving me an update every other week. I ordered my A7 on 1/5. It is scheduled to be at port in Germany on 3/15. It is scheduled to arrive in Houston on 4/9. I expect my car to be ready around 4/15. Again, this is all based on Audi manufacturing algorithms which could of course be impacted by the real world.
