EBC Redstuff Brake pads Brake warning light for Pads
 

I had EBC redsuff pads and rotors installed on my 2012 Audi A7 maybe a Year or a bit more ago. On the way home from a recent trip to Montana the Brake lite came on with a Brake Pad warning. I took it to the dealer who blamed the problem on the EBC pads and where the sensor wire clipped on. The pads are in great shape and show as Green on the check list they provide when the car is serviced. Audi dealer sent me on my merry way with the brake warning light still on and good to go brake pads. Has anyone else experienced this with EBC pads. Near as I can tell they work as good or better than the OEM and are a whole lot cleaner. The OEM pads are absolutely filthy, hence my putting on the EBCs.

You probably have a bad brake pad thickness sensor. When your pads were installed, they might have reused the old sensors. There's one sensor on the drivers side (I think) front caliper and one on the rear.

Thanks rather strange that the dealer would not have told me they needed to install a new sensor and charged me mega bucks.

Yeah they should have at least disconnected the sensor and plugged in a replacement to see if that fixes it. If you can do the work yourself then I suggest you go to the local Advanced Auto Parts (AAP) and buy a new sensor for about $10 - 15. Don't buy from the dealer unless you enjoy spending WAY too much money. Audiparts.com has the sensor listed for $74. I guarantee the AAP sensor will work just as good for a fraction of the cost.

I have EBC Redstuff Ceramic Brake Pads and they are EXTREMELY clean LOW DUST that keeps my wheels clean.

There are no sensors on mine nor did the original ones have sensors on the rear, yet the BRAKE PADS are WORN warning came on with BRAND NEW EBC PADS!

A scanner (I used Carista) has to "open" the piston and then after the new pads are put on, the piston caliper has to be "closed" - thus resetting the calibration for the EPB module.

Yet my 2011 Audi Q5 still displays this symbol!

The sensor is a simple loop of wire. If the sensor is unplugged or if the pad is around 3mm thick, the warning comes on.
I had one set of pads that did not include a new sensor. I was able to pry the old sensor free and RTV it into place. I always double check if the pads I'm now buying come with sensors. Here's a picture of my left rear pad with the sensor almost worn through.

The ACC uses the rear brakes to slow down and the previous owner used it during her commute. It wore the rear pads down in around 20,000 miles. I changed the pads to ceramic to reduce the brake dust and found it. The front pads were almost new.

It's a simple DIY to unplug the connector and clip on a new sensor. Next time buy OE pads that include new sensors as there are plenty of low dust ceramic options that perform well from OE and OEM suppliers.

I use Akebono pads, they come with the sensor.

I would also recommend Zimmermann rotors.
