Default Fuel cap strap replacement

Hi everyone.
Very minor issue, but it's bothering me.
My fuel cap strap just broke where it attaches to the fuel door, and I see there's a part number on it 1J0 201 556
However, I'm not able to find the strap itself for sale. It seems I have to buy the full fuel cap assembly to get the new strap that comes with it. Anyone had this issue and knows where to get the strap only?

My strap broke in the same place. I may use some shot cord to repair it when it gets warmer out.

I did find a Volvo tether but I don't know if it will fit the gas cap.

Mine also broke off where it attaches to the side of the filler area. The dealer here in town had to order a new cap during my last service. They called me back a week later, in and out in 15 minutes, espresso, battery change in the remote - all for the equivalent of $28. I'm at the point in my life where I let the dealer handle it all. Once I return to the states it may be different since I see many complaints on the forum about unscrupulous dealers/service managers. I'm sure I'll be asking you all where the good ones are at.

From the look of your cap, it appears you may have to do the same...

In my experience, there is no reason to have a bad relationship with your dealer. Spend some time building a personal relationship with the service manager and your adviser. Bring sandwiches, or doughnuts sometime and give them a reason to give you extra special treatment. Works every time. Also, put a smile on your face and sound excited to be at the dealership. Goes a long ways toward building lifetime relationships.

Side note, do y'all let the gas cap dangle or is there a gas cap holder when you fill up? I let the cap sit upside down near the fill up compartment. Either they didn't think about it or I don't know

In my A7 the gas cap has a plastic dowel in its center that fits into a hole at the top left corner of the fuel door to hold it during refilling.

Holy crap, you're right. I knew that had something to do with it, I just assumed it was the lock and didn't try

I do think thats is for the Diesel powered machines :-), I do not think there is a pin in the bottom of my cap, on Gasoline powered V6.
Will have to look.
Anyway, I will get one from AliXpress to try out for the gasoline version.
