More pics here:

Most of the earlier speculation had the Gran Coupe coming in at significantly less than the coupe, but I'm not so sure anymore...

Edit: Even more pics here. WTF is going on with the inside of the trunk??

I like it, but not the same as the A7. The A7 has much more of a unique, independent design and stands by itself IMHO. I do like BMWs and think that the Z4 is better than the TT (having had both), so I try to be as objective as I can about this. On this one, the A7 at least looks better.

I was just taking a quick look at the new 6 series GC which I have to say looks better than BMW's last effort at creating a sporty variant of another model in their range, namely the 5 series GT.

I was just wondering what it would be like to compare the latest 5 series with the 6 series GC, I was curious to see what they looked like in side profile.

This not a scientific test as I have approximated the sizes of the cars bit I think the pics are close in scale, but the 5 series is just a touch longer than the current 6 series coupe and I would assume the GC is slightly longer in the wheel base than the 2 door coupe. Now when you look at both cars from the B pillar back, the profiles are almost identical but with the 5 series having slightly more bulk around the rear pillar and the 6 series has a lower roofline. Looking at the interior and trunk pics of the GC, it looks like BMW has compromised trunk space by providing lots of leg room in the back seats. Not a bad thing, but this is classed as a touring coupe and I am not convinced that you would get four people and their luggage in that boot!, also the 2012 A7 now has the fifth seat and so is slightly more practical and of course has a cavernous trunk area, especially with the seats down.

Now when you compare the A7 with the GC, I wonder which one I prefer LOL, I am guessing that both of these cars will be about the same length (A7 is 4970mm) but the side profiles couldn't be anymore different. Also in this pic you can clearly see that the GC's cabin is set back from the A7s which is why I guess the GC's trunk is compromised somewhat.

Based on the negative feedback that BMW received with the 5 series GT, I reckon BMW has decided to play safe with the design of the 6 GC. It looks elegant enough but is it really a 'stand out' design, I don't think so. Will the GC age alot quicker than the A7, yes I believe it will. Would be interested in your opinions on this

Wow, you spent alot of time on this, good work! The reality is, it looks good & will sell. It is a BMer after all. I would bet it's price point will be ~ $10k more than the A7. I have no regrets choosing my A7. "Imitation is the sincerest form of flaterry" I heard somewhere .

The 6 has something of the Maserati Quattroporte about it. Certainly the best looking 6 yet and BMW buyers will be glad to have an attractive alternative to the 5 Series GT at last. Will be interesting to see how pratical it is if at all and the price and equipment levels. It is attractive but then so of course is the A7

Completely agree with you Hashluck and I think the A7 wins on both style and ultimately value for money. Hate to think what a well spec'd 6 series GC will work out to be. An M6 based GC would be a cracking car, then again so will the S7 as well Can't wait for the A7 v 6GC v CLS reviews to appear!

Thanks for the comparison photos - the A7 wins hands-down. The Bimmer isn't unattractive at all, and I like it. The A7 is simply streamlined in a way that exudes strength, speed and elegance even standing still.
